volt lab bannerVOLT Lab 2014: Open Submission

Ausform & Circomedia entered into collaboration with the birth of VOLT Circus Scratch Night in 2013 with the shared ambition of improving the professional landscape for creating Circus Theatre. Furthermore, Ausform independently delivers the VOLT Award to support emerging artists. VOLT Lab pilot is our collaborative proposal to integrate the wealth of resources held by both parties into a supportive R&D programme for circus theatre work currently in development.

Participants will drive their own creative process with tailor-made areas of support on a case-by-case basis from Circomedia and Ausform;

  • Rehearsal space
  • Access to technical equipment (including the full rig at St Pauls Church, Portland Square)
  • Lighting design
  • Professional guidance consultation with identified professionals in specific disciplines (technical, direction, movement, dramaturgy, theatre and circus skills)
  • Structured one-day programme of ‘start-up’ support including marketing, fundraising and sales

Applicants must be post-education (i.e. not students) and have work that is already significantly developed that would benefit from added production value and support to bring it to public performance.

Possible confirmed performance events:

  • End of project sharing event
  • Circomedia Sunday Best event
  • VOLT Scratch nights
  • Ausform Microfest
  • Circomedia programming

Work should be small-scale, venue-based or outdoors, but suitable for venue based R&D. Both solo and company work accepted.

VOLT Lab takes place between 4th-15th of Aug 2014
